Purpose : The study aim at looking into the condition of iron deposit in corneas of Asia children post orthokeratology treatment. Previous related reports have been on post hyperopic photorefractive keratectomy, normal post laser in situ keratomileusis, post radial keratotomy and most popular on advanced keratoconus patients.
Method : We evaluated 20 eyes with faint laterally position brownish line on the lower portion of the cornea following orthokeratology treatment. Patients were analyzed with respect to pre-treatment spherical equivalent, attempted correction, and post-treatment time interval.
Results : No statistically significant data between the attempted correction with this phenomena. However, iron deposit usually shoes up with 6 months since treatment starts and it bears no adverse effect on the orthokeratology procedure itself.
Conclusion : This epithelial or sub-epithelial phenomena is believed to be due to corneal topography and lid-cornea interface with tear distribution. At this time, its precise histochemistry, cause, source, and natural history are still unknown. All patients have no subjective complaints along with this condition and visual performance remain to optimal. Further research is being conducted to collect more detail information. |
